CACHI Consciousness Research
This blog is for those who are interested in the intersection between science, consciousness, culture and faith.
In this blog we put forward a coherent theoretical framework that provocatively gets to the heart of the nature of consciousness, and explores what it means to be human. Dubbed, “Consciousness as Complexity Homeostatic Integration”, CACHI takes us on a journey through the multiverse, algorithmic information theory and quantum physics.
Relatively recent changes in our understanding of the universe are most certainly ripe for such an investigation. For example, what happens when the take multiverse theory and apply it to current research into the nature of consciousness?
Three astounding epiphanies arise: firstly, the possibility of subjective immortality. After all, there must be one branch of this multiverse where whatever killed me doesn’t occur. Subjectively, then, we must always be able to find a path where we don’t die.
Secondly, it turns causality upside down. In a single universe, where consciousness is just a byproduct of processes, then everything becomes reducible and everything is governed by simple cause-and-effect. But in a multiverse where only certain events compatible with consciousness actually appear to exist, our ideas of what causes things to happen gets completely reversed. It’s no longer material causes governing events, it’s also our conscious disposition.
Thirdly, this means there are an infinite variations in the multiverse, and we traverse only some of them where we’re conscious.
In other words: the world we live in is malleable, and is our own.
